Class Tour of Central High School
Reunion '55 – 2009
IMG_1787.jpg Greg McCullough, principal of Central High School wearing a polo shirt with a big H on the front, addressed the group of 20 attendees in the library (which was the auditorium in 1954). We were given a map of the rooms with all of the '54 teachers' names written in....that way we could search for our old home rooms and other classrooms we remembered. Some of us even recalled the old "Boys' Smoking Room" in the basement. We also got to see the new section (at least new to us) housing the new gym and auditorium as well as classrooms. The day was hot, so he took us to a window at the back of the school where we could see the New Crump Stadium– it is nice. The Memphis school district closed Crump Stadium to competition after the 2004 high school football season and in the summer of 2006 the old stadium underwent demolition. The new stadium opened in 2007, is more appropriately sized for high school football complete with a new track and other track and field amenities. The outer brick wall, original gates and entrances were retained and the name remains "Crump Stadium."
