50th Reunion
in Memphis
May 28-29, 2004
Of the expected
235 attendees attending the 50th Reunion, 50 had reservations at
the Hampton Inn – Shady Grove. Some even arrived a couple
of days early.
Thanks to the Reunion Committee, a hospitality room
was open from Thursday afternoon until Sunday noon offering soft
drinks and snacks to out-of-town attendees.
Some people visited family and friends, saw the sights
and a few made trips back to their old neighborhoods.
Friday,
May 28, 2004
On
Friday night, the Reunion began with a cocktail buffet held at
the beautiful home of Sidney &
Peggy Salky Evensky, not far from
the HI.
After
a day of threatening skies, the weather cleared and the evening
was perfect for this outdoor event.
From the hotel, attendees
were transported to Peggy’s by van which made for a relaxing
evening.Dress for Friday night was casual as you can see
in the photos,
By
sunset, the crowd was wall-to-wall
at Peggy's house
There was plenty of soft drinks,
wine and beer, deli sandwiches, potato salad, deserts, etc.on
Friday night. It was a perfect icebreaker to rekindle old friendships
and renew acquaintances.
Saturday,
May 29
Dinner
at Ridgeway Country Club
The
main event was held at Ridgeway Country Club, near Collierville.
Saturday's
function included a social hour, a buffet, live music, and aprogram
which included the video CD.
Ridgeway
Country Club was a great place to hold the dinner party. As you
entered the ballroom, there were displays of Central memorabilia
and photos including the one below.

Particularly
touching was the memorial poster
to the Classmates
who are no
longer with us. |
An official photographer was
on hand for the Class Photo as well as taking photos of individuals
and groups. To contact him regarding his work, log on to his web
site listed on the sidebar on this page.

The
Class of 1954 gathered for an official group photo taken early in
the evening
Before dinner, Classmate the
Reverend Robert McAuley gave the blessing.
There was a spendid buffet dinner
followed by desert. Then, the evening was turned over to Master
of Ceremonies, Milton Knowlton, who recognized individuals who worked
on the reunion. Jean Green Pettis read a personal composition which
will is included on this web site
(see sidebar).
The
highlight of the program spotlighted
“The Way We Were,” the Central in 1954 video
CD created by Co-Chair Harry Murchison, which showed photos of everyone
in the class as well as many scenes from the past.
Throughout
the evening, Reunion attendees swapped tales of their days at Central
and had a great time. Many left talking about getting together again
in the years to come.
How
good was it?
