The Class of '54 Reunion Committee met on May 14
to decide upon plans for a 55th class reunion in 2009

Dear Warriors of 1954,

We had 132 classmates join us for our 50th reunion in 2004 and had a great time seeing each other after 50 years.

Your Reunion Committee is PLANNING a 55th REUNION next year for the last weekend in May – May 29 & 30, 2009.

This will be an informal gathering  where we can have more time for interaction with each other.

The theme for REUNION55 is “This is Your Life!”

Are you interested in hearing what your classmates have done since leaving Central High in 54?

We are! And we would like to encourage  EVERYONE to submit a one or two-page biography about your life sinceCENTRAL. Where you have been...what you have done. These biographies will be bound and made available to everyone who wants one.

Peggy and Sidney Evensky have graciously offered their home again for 6:30 pm Friday evening, May 29. It will be casual with pizza, subs, beer, wine, soft drinks and dessert.

On Saturday, we are planning a gathering at Ridgeway Country Club. From 5:00-7:00, we will have a cash bar and the opportunity to mix & mingle. A buffet dinner will begin at 7:00 PM.

Afterwards, we will have an old time Juke Box with '50s 45-rpm records for dancing.

If you are interested in attending REUNION55,
please e-mail central5404@yahoo.com
or reply to the Return Address provided below, with your affirmation.

Hotel information and the reunion cost will be provided later based upon attendance. If you have questions or any of your contact information has changed, please let us know.

News about our Classmates

Our Loss – Emily's Gain

Our 2004 Reunion Chair, Emily Bernhardt Jacobsen has retired and moved to her new home in Phoenix, Oregon, a short distance from her son who lives in Ashland, Oregon.

Curious about where Phoenix (Ore) is? Look it up on Google Earth and you’ll see a satellite photo of what is a beautiful area in the southern part of the state.

Em gave up her duties as our Reunion Committee Chair, but definitely will be in Memphis for the '09 Reunion. All of us wish Emily the best out in Oregon.

The committee met to discuss new assignments and have another session scheduled in August.

Sad news

From time to time, we will report news that affects our classmates. Hopefully, that will mean that you will send in your good news about what is happening in your lives.

Occasionally, however, we learn about the loss of classmates. News of the passing of several classmates has reached us.

During the past year, we had been trying to locate C.F. “Joe”Johnson, one of the lost alumns in 2004.

We finally heard from his son that he was looking forward to attending the 55th reunion. Recently, we got word....

“Sadly, I must tell you that Dad died today, June 3, 2008 in Alexandria, La at the age of 73.  He leaves behind a loving wife, two sons and 4 grandchildren who will miss him dearly.  He wanted so much to be at next year’s reunion. He often talked with great fondness of the years he spent in Memphis and the friends that he made there.”

  Carole Seymour
Willis
Paul
Williams

Dot Adams Watts told us about the death of Doris Coleman Sadler's death in Williamsburg, Virginia. Her husband, Warren, had passed away the week before.

Peggy Evensky passed on some more sad news...Betty Hanover Carney died on February 15 of pancreatic cancer.

We also learned that Charles Hunter had died on February 3. His wife had preceeded him in death about 20 years ago after 30 years of marriage.

On October 28, Carole Seymour Willis passed away in Memphis.

Paul Williams died on September 24 in Chattanooga from complications of diabetes which he had been battling for some time.

It's hard to learn about these events, however, most of us would like to know.

A Letter from George Wentworth

Got a letter from this Central Grad recently – while not a '54 classmate, he’s really into talking about CHS history...most especially that of Central football

Here are some of
his remembrances
